Keep the faith: Tottenham fans send words of encouragement to Walker-Peters

[ad_pod ]

Kyle Walker-Peters was left out of the Tottenham Hotspur squad for Wednesday’s incredible Champions League clash with Ajax.

Lucas Moura scored a second-half hat-trick for the Premier League club as they recovered from a 3-0 aggregate deficit to advance to the final on away goals.

Kieran Trippier was again given the nod at right-back in a decision that did not go down well with the Tottenham fans.

Indeed, the England international’s performance was heavily criticised.

And now a number of the Spurs supporters have taken to social media to insist that Walker-Peters should be given more first-team action.

The 5 ft 8 ace has actually only played nine times in all competitions this season, and will struggle to make the squad for the Champions League final on June 1.

The club’s fans have a high opinion of Walker-Peters, though, with many revealing their feelings on Twitter in response to a post from the defender:

Crystal Palace eye Isaac Hayden; the end of Jairo Riedewald?

[ad_pod ]

According to The Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are keen on want-away Newcastle star Isaac Hayden this summer, with the midfielder apparently seeking an exit from St James’ Park despite having enjoyed an extended run in the starting XI in 2018/19.

A tough-tackling defensive midfielder who, like Palace, has frustrated Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City this season, Hayden could be a shrewd by for plenty of sides, the Eagles included. Any swoop for the 24-year-old would surely be terminal to Jairo Riedewald’s career at Selhurst Park, though.

What’s the word?

Well, The Daily Mail reports that Hayden is set on finding pastures new at the end of the season having remained for one term longer than he wanted to, and his impressive performances at the base of Rafa Benitez’s midfield will surely mean he won’t be short of options.

Newcastle are thought to be demanding in excess of £10m for the enforcer, who has made 24 league appearances this campaign, with Palace’s bitter rivals Brighton and Hertfordshire outfit Watford also interested in acquiring his services.

Standing at 6 ft 2, Hayden is a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the park and would add some extra steel to an already impressive Palace midfield. The former Arsenal man’s arrival at Selhurst Park would surely mean that Riedewald’s career is as good as over as the Dutchman threatens to become a huge waste of potential through no fault of his own.

A tough Ried for Riedewald

The 2017 signing from Ajax has yet to feature for Palace in the league this season but has impressed when given a chance in the cup and, at just 22 years of age, still has plenty of time to blossom into the player Palace surely thought they were buying almost two years ago.

A versatile midfielder who reads the game well and is composed on the ball, Riedewald has looked like a class player when he dons the red and blue and these Palace fans want to see more of him:

Unfortunately, it seems that the hopes of this pro-Riedewald section of the SE25 faithful will be dashed this summer, with any move for Hayden surely spelling the end of the young Dutchman’s career. He’s been left to rot in the reserves for too long and the Newcastle man’s arrival, preceded by the signing of Cheikhou Kouyate last summer, must be the final straw.

Mixed opinions: Tottenham fans react to potential Sessegnon agreement

[ad_pod ]

Football journalist Richard Cawley has claimed, via his official Twitter account, that Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon is heading for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Indeed, Cawley has said that a ‘good source’ has informed him that the switch is almost complete.

Sessegnon set pulses racing when he took to social media in the aftermath of Tottenham’s incredible semi-final win over Ajax in the Champions League.

And now the Tottenham fans have been offering their views once again.

Whilst a number are excited by the possibility of Sessegnon arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, others are not so keen.

Sessegnon only managed two goals in 35 Premier League appearances for Fulham during the 2018-19 campaign.

He did contribute six assists, though, and those numbers are not bad at all for an 18 year old in his first season at the top level.

Liverpool: Moussa Dembele an ideal successor to Roberto Firmino

There’s a saying that the taste of ambition is addictive.

Jurgen Klopp clearly has that very obsession to do better after Liverpool’s rise in recent years, resulting in the best Reds team we’ve seen in years. Right now, it’s hard to argue that there’s always a need for improvement under the German’s regime but even after their historic campaign, the former Borussia Dortmund coach is already looking at ways to make them stronger.

Among the multiple acquisitions he may want to make, Klopp is apparently eager to add more firepower up front. Indeed, Divock Origi, despite his heroics, isn’t quite there yet and Daniel Sturridge’s contract is soon up so, to create an even more menacing attacking line, Klopp’s thought to be looking at top striking options.

According to reports (via Euro United late last week), he’s moved his attention towards Olympique Lyonnais’ Moussa Dembele. The 22-year-old Frenchman’s having a stunning campaign in Ligue 1, having scored 14 goals this campaign, proving he can do it outside of the Scottish league after such success with Celtic. Moreover, the former Fulham man’s style mirrors the philosophy Klopp’s pushing at Merseyside.

Perhaps minus the defensive contribution, the kind of thing players seem to naturally buy into when moving to Anfield these days, Dembele’s probably the next generation of prolific strikers. He’s quick, incisive with his movement in the final third and knows how to be a menace to defenders. Indeed, his impressive link-up play, distribution ability can also work towards tuning up Klopp’s heavy-metal football.

As an alternative to Roberto Firmino, the Frenchman seems perfect.

The 22-year-old’s a cunning goal-scorer and among the peak of French talents coming through the system. If Klopp truly wants someone to pick up Firmino’s mantle and take the goal-scoring pressure off Mo Salah or Sadio Mane, Dembele’s the man to lean on. He can become an Anfield hero with his goal-scoring quality and take Liverpool to new heights in the near future.

Yes please: Newcastle fans react to reports of possible Benito arrival

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, Young Boys defender Loris Benito has arrived in England ahead of a potential move to Newcastle United.

The 27-year-old, who is a two-time Switzerland international, has helped Young Boys win the Swiss Super League in each of the last two campaigns.

The defender’s contract with his current club will expire at the end of June, though, suggesting that he will be seeking pastures new.

According to The Sun, Benito has touched down in England to undergo ‘final talks’ with Newcastle ahead of a potential move to St James’ Park.

Should the move go through then Benito could become Newcastle’s first signing of a new era at the club, funded by UAE billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Indeed, Magpies owner Mike Ashley is said to be in talks to sell to the cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour.

A selection of the Twitter reaction in relation to a potential swoop for Benito can be seen below:

Giovani Lo Celso is the energy in midfield Manchester United so desperately need

Manchester United are surely set for a complete revamp this summer and it will be very interesting to see who they bring in.

A truly miserable season that saw them miss out on a Champions League spot, a lot of work now needs to be done in the transfer market.

Though unlike it would for other clubs, it may not be all doom and gloom. Manchester United are a global powerhouse and are adored by many in the football world.

The attraction and lure of Old Trafford is still very much alive and one player who may be persuaded by exactly that this summer is Giovani Lo Celso.

Lo Celso (who is valued at £36 million on Transfermarkt) has excelled away from PSG this season after enjoying a breakthrough spell with Real Betis, and is currently being linked with a move to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side (Marca via Sky Sports).

The 23-year-old managed a total of nine goals and five assists in La Liga, a tremendous feat for a central midfielder. In total he managed 16 goals in all competitions, something that has in turn, made Man United among others very interested.

Although Real Betis have agreed to sign him permanently from PSG this summer and will likely demand his full release clause to be met (BBC Sport), that should not deter the Red Devils if they really do want him.

Whilst Juan Mata is set (per the Daily Mail) to leave, the 23-year-old would surely be the perfect replacement and improvement in attack United need.

With plenty of goals, creativity, energy and desire, Lo Celso would fit in with exactly what Solskjaer is trying to build at United — a group of players who want to play for the shirt and that’s the very least fans want to see.

Do you think Giovani Lo Celso would make a good signing for Manchester United? Discuss in the comment section down below!

The Verdict: Should West Ham sign Delph from Manchester City?

[ad_pod ]

West Ham United are considering a move to sign Fabian Delph from Manchester City this summer, per Football Insider.

The Hammers are keen to sign the versatile star, who can play as a left-back or as a central midfielder, as they look to strengthen a squad that finished 10th in the Premier League in 2018-19.

Delph made just 11 appearances in the top-flight as City pipped Liverpool to the title by a point, but played a more significant role during 2017/18 as the Premier League champions’ emergency left-back, filling a void left by injured Frenchman Benjamin Mendy.

With manager Pep Guardiola seemingly ready to cash in on the former Aston Villa star and Manuel Pellegrini no doubt keen to build upon his first year in east London, should the Irons make a move for the England international during the summer transfer window?

Some of Football FanCast’s expert writers give their verdicts below!

Luke Glanville

“The acquisition of Delph would be a very smart one for West Ham United and they should definitely make it happen in the summer transfer window. Mark Noble is not getting any younger and Pedro Obiang is clearly not good enough to be his long-term replacement. Delph has played in the World Cup, Champions League and been involved in Guardiola’s incredible Manchester City team. His experience, then, would surely help Declan Rice’s development greatly.”

Matt Dawson

“Absolutely not. The last thing West Ham need is another player who is simply way past his use by date. Delph has shown this season that he’s not good enough and it’s an incredible surprise that he’s made it into the England squad for the Nations League. I imagine he’d demand a considerable wage packet too so this is a deal that the Hammers should be looking to avoid at all costs.”

Billy Meyers

“I don’t see why not. Delph is a reliable player who has shone in the past for Aston Villa. He is more than good enough for a club like West Ham and would be one of the Hammers’ better players if he signed. It would definitely be a smart signing; the acquisition of a serial silverware winner can only be a good thing for the Irons.”

Christy Malyan

“Wages would definitely worry me but I think this could be a very shrewd signing on the right terms. Delph is versatile, experienced, hardworking and defensively-minded – he could provide real balance and consistency to a West Ham team that has a knack of leaving itself far too open and struggles to deliver on the less glamorous occasions. In some ways he reminds me of Ashley Young – someone who has been a consummate professional at a big club for a long time – and while the Manchester United man has struggled throughout the most recent campaign, he’d enjoyed a real Indian summer in the 18 months previous. West Ham could be Delph’s renaissance”

Arsenal shouldn’t worry about money and should go all out for Danish star: Opinion

Arsenal will be hoping to add some new players to their squad over the summer after an impressive enough first season under Unai Emery.

Life without Arsene Wenger has been better than many expected, and a loss in the Europa League final was the only thing standing between the Gunners and adding some silverware to the cabinet in Emery’s first year.

The summer ahead promises to be an interesting one for Emery and his scouting teams, as they look to bring in players who fit the bill but without breaking the bank.

This weekend then has seen the club linked with a move for Sampdoria defender Joachim Anderson, with a report from the Daily Star claiming the Gunners are somewhat put off by what they perceive as a large fee for the 23-year-old defender.

However, here in the Tavern, we feel that Andersen could be the ideal player Arsenal need to shore up their backline, and if it takes paying a fairly hefty fee for the Dane, then so be it.

The Sampdoria ace impressed last season as he became a regular for the Italian giants, and he fits in well with what many regard as a typical Arsenal player, with Andersen holding a pass completion percentage of 88% over the course of last season.

There is more to Andersen’s game though than just being classy with the ball, and he has that real old school Italian league defensive steel about him.

The Gunners have struggled at the back for many years now, with many defenders trying and failing to plug the gaps in the back four for the Londoners. The likes of Mustafi, Callum Chambers and Sokratis have all failed to really impress in recent times, leaving a space wide open for Andersen to come in and make a place in the back four his own at the Emirates.

Sancho embraces bromance with Chilwell after Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

Everybody loves a good bromance. Whether it’s on the pitch or off it, fans love seeing players beginning to develop close relationships with each other.

After the end of the Nations League brought down the curtains on their seasons, Leicester star Ben Chilwell took to Instagram to post a snap of himself and Jadon Sancho, with the pair seemingly developing a close bond after making their first start and debut against Croatia last October respectively.

The picture prompted Sancho to reply with similarly affectionate words and a real indication of how the duo have forged a friendship together whilst on international duty.

Both enjoyed impressive campaigns for their respective club sides, with Sancho in particular taking the footballing world by storm after registering 12 goals and 17 assists in the Bundesliga alone last season.

Chilwell’s upturn in form this campaign also drew rave reviews, with his performance against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium towards the closing stages of the season seeing Pep Guardiola offer him words of praise and encouragement.

With reports earlier this year suggesting that Sancho could be making his return to the Premier League, the duo’s bromance could be tested out in English football sooner rather than later.
