Man Utd fans react to transfer update on Borussia Dortmund prodigy Jadon Sancho

Since making the move abroad from Manchester City, Jadon Sancho has taken to German football like a duck to water.

The 19-year-old has been electric for Borussia Dortmund since joining the club back in the summer of 2017, providing 18 goals and a further 31 assists across all competitions.

That form has naturally seen his name linked with a move away from Germany, with clubs like City and Manchester United reported to be interested in securing his signature in the future.

Now, The Daily Mail claim the teenager is keen to leave Dortmund, thus “giving his growing list of admirers further encouragement”.

After hearing the update on their pursuit of Sancho, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the developing situation.

Many supporters of the Manchester side voiced their concerns over potentially signing the England international, with one fan in particular claiming that he isn’t even better than £15m man Daniel James.

Check out some of the reaction of United fans below:

Tottenham fans once again call for Troy Parrott appearance after ROI assist

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Troy Parrott capped his first Republic of Ireland appearance with an assist in Thursday’s 3-1 win over New Zealand.

The 17-year-old’s only first-team minutes for Spurs this season have come in the EFL Cup.

Indeed, despite the team’s struggles – winning just three of their 12 Premier League matches – Parrott has not been called upon to appear in the league.

Parrott made a telling contribution for his country on Thursday, though, before leaving the field in the 63rd minute of the international friendly.

Tottenham’s official Twitter account provided a video of the assist from the 6 ft 1 ace.

And it was not a surprise that a whole host of Spurs fans responded by once again calling for Mauricio Pochettino to start handing the teenager some first-team action, having done so last month when Parrott was announced part of Ireland’s initial 39-man squad.

With seven goals in four appearances in the UEFA Youth League and Premier League 2 this season, Parrott surely has to be worth a punt for the out-of-form capital giants.

West Brom should call on Chris Brunt to replace Jake Livermore

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

West Bromwich Albion will be looking to continue their run at the top of the Championship this afternoon as they finally return to league action after a two-week hiatus.

The Baggies host Sheffield Wednesday at the Hawthorns knowing it will be no easy test with the south Yorkshire side sitting just three points outside of a playoff position, and quite possibly with a point to prove after their recent EFL charge.

If Slaven Bilic is to give his side some more breathing room from the chasing pack, they’ll need to do so in the absence of midfield duo Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers.

Both players will be serving a one-match suspension.

On the Chalkboard

Yesterday, Football FanCast made the case for Filip Krovinovic to replace the summer arrival due to their similarities in the passing game, so it only seems right to offer up his midfield partner this time around.

Losing your industrious skipper is no easy feat, but it can be made easier by introducing a player in the same mould.

Chris Brunt has been at the club for just over 12 years now, and in recent times, mainly due to his advancing years, he has transitioned from a winger into a central midfielder.

He seems like the ideal man to temporarily replace Livermore against his former club too.

Throughout his career at the Hawthorns, the 34-year-old has proven to be a physical bulldog – he’s averaged 1.6 tackles per game over a ten season span, some of which was also in the Premier League.

Brunt has been capped 65 times at international level for Northern Ireland, so is there really a better option?

He also has averaged 1.1 aerial duels won per match in the same time frame, which is pretty good going for a midfielder.

No midfielder in the current squad manages more tackles per game than Livermore at 2.1 while he also fouls the opposition the most too at an average of 1.5 times a game, via WhoScored.

Brunt may not have played much this season, but his 45 minutes in midweek were surely in preparation for this tie. He seems the most likely option to fill in.

Harry Kane’s tweet has lots of Spurs fans talking

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has tweeted his appreciation for the NHS, and it has got plenty of fans talking in north London.

The entire nation grouped together to show their support for the National Health Service workers who are working tirelessly to keep people safe during this devastating pandemic with homes across the country clapping for them late last night.

This was no different for the Spurs talisman, who joined in before posting a response to one supporter on social media.

Kane’s appreciation has sent many at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium into a gushing frenzy as you can see from the following reactions below…

The 26-year-old is currently on the treatment table following his injury against Southampton on New Year’s Day, so he certainly is one to appreciate the hard work that medical professionals do in not just football but in wider society, too.

Kane’s kind gesture has got many swooning over him with supporters calling him everything from the “captain” of the team to the “best striker in the world” while one fan believes he is the perfect role model that anyone should aspire to be, and it’s hard to disagree.

The Englishman has been sorely missed this calendar year, in his absence, Spurs have crashed out of all cup competitions and have sunk to seven points adrift of the top four.

He had notched 17 goals from 25 appearances prior to his injury, so Jose Mourinho will have certainly rued his absence in recent weeks.

If there’s any tiny bit of positivity to come from this horrible situation, it is the fact that Kane will be nearer a return to action by the time the Premier League sweeps back around, which will surely bolster Spurs’ chances of making a European tournament next season.

Three moments in Liverpool history that riled the fanbase

Liverpool are certainly enjoying their glory days at the moment, having already won their sixth European title and scooping both the Club World Cup and Super Cup this season.

With their first ever Premier League win also on the horizon, it’s hard to imagine a time when the Reds weren’t cruising. But Liverpool have had a lot to fume about over the years; here are just three moments that really stirred the pot.

Philippe Coutinho’s ‘back injury’

Not long after signing a new five-year deal with the club, Coutinho was heavily linked to his dream move to Barcelona and eventually put in a transfer request. Of course, everyone knows how that story ended, and some Liverpool fans still haven’t forgiven him – but it’s the build-up of events that stung the worst.

The Brazilian was out of action for the Reds following an apparent back injury he had sustained ‘due to stress’. However, the sympathy from fans soon turned into hostility after Coutinho netted a goal for his country against Ecuador in the World Cup qualifiers.

Apparently never injured at all, the 27-year-old went on to complete the move to La Liga shortly after. His actions leading up to his departure still leaves an extremely sour taste in the mouths of Liverpool fans.

Steven Gerrard’s transfer request

Despite devoting 17 years of his career to Anfield and leading his side to one of the club’s most historic ever wins in the 2005 Champions League, fans still can’t forgive Gerrard’s Chelsea temptation.

It was during a dark time in the Scouser’s career and Liverpool simply weren’t performing well enough in the league. After Chelsea showed interest, Gerrard handed in a transfer request just weeks after that night in Istanbul and the red half of Merseyside went into turmoil. Photos of shirt burning filled the media as Kopites prepared to see the back of their captain.

Of course, it all had a happy ending, but it was perhaps one of the most outrageous events in the club’s timeline.

Mamadou Sakho and Christian Benteke celebrate

One moment that really ruffled the feathers of the Liverpool fans was following recently departed Benteke’s goal against his former side in 2017. The Belgian’s goal secured an equaliser against the Reds which he relished in front of the Crystal Palace fans.

Sakho was on loan with the Eagles at the time prior to his permanent move and made the mistake of joining Benteke in his celebrations by performing a handshake on the touchline. Naturally, Liverpool fans hit the roof over the disrespect to the club he was still legally tied to.

Despite his apologies since the incident, Reds fans haven’t forgiven him over his complete lack of regard and professionalism.

Celtic: Fans show how big following is as they flood BT Sport tweet

A lot of Celtic fans have been showing how great their support is by flooding over to a tweet by Football on BT Sport.

The account held a vote on who is the best club football team of the last century, with it being between the 1966/67 Celtic team, or the Barcelona 2008/09 side.

The La Liga outfit won the Spanish Cup, whilst also winning the league and the Champions league during that campaign, and they had great players such as Thierry Henry, Lionel Messi, and Samuel Eto’o, per Transfermarkt.

However the 1967/68 Celtic team needs to get the recognition it deserves as they won every trophy available, a total of five which included the league title, the League Cup, the Scottish Cup, the Glasgow Cup, and the European Cup, per thecelticwiki.

The Football on BT Sport account had to replay the vote after the first one ended 50-50 when over 100,000 people voted, however the Celtic support rallied behind their side, giving them the victory on the second poll.

The side were the first British side to win the European cup, per thecelticwiki, and their great campaign has to be looked at as one of, if not the best by a side in the history of football over the last 100 years.

Here is what fans had to say about to post:

Report: West Ham want Soucek stay but big spending is unlikely

West Ham United are reportedly still keen on the permanent signing of Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek, according to Football.London.

What does the report say?

Soucek joined West Ham on loan from Slavia Prague in January and made four appearances before the suspension of the season.

According to Football.London, the club are keen on making this deal permanent for around £16.9m, although this will leave the Hammers with little money to spend elsewhere.

In three Premier League starts, the 25-year-old defensive midfielder has averaged two tackles, two interceptions and three clearances per match and the club are said to have been impressed with his impact.

However, given the financial situation that is likely to affect plenty of football clubs this summer, £16.9m is likely to take up much of the club’s summer budget.

New trends

With clubs likely to have less money than ever before, free transfers and loan deals are set to become commonplace.

The Hammers know they have wasted too much in transfer fees in recent seasons and with big names like Andriy Yarmolenko, Felipe Anderson and Sebastien Haller struggling to show their best on a consistent basis, it will be interesting to show how a change of strategy might work.

Of course, maintaining their Premier League status remains their priority, but with an eye on the summer, they will have to start identifying young talent more effectively than they have in the past.

Sunderland: Black Cats fans show further ‘anger’ towards club’s ownership

Many Sunderland fans have reacted to a review on the latest developments at the club and the ownership of Stewart Donald.

The latest news coming out of the Stadium of Light has caused fans to further react to Donald’s decisions with claims he is now preparing to sell the club without repaying a debt of £20m.

Having suffered relegation down from the Premier League to League One over the last three seasons, something that was well documented via Netflix series Sunderland ‘Til I Die, the Black Cats are now on the verge of another unsuccessful season, sitting just outside the play-off places in England’s third tier.

The latest report over Donald’s plans for the club are likely to cause more fan upset, something that popular podcast Wise Men Say have discussed on their latest issue.

Donald took over from former owner Ellis Short, who also caused much controversy during his time in charge, and the report of a £20m debt claims that he used broadcast income to finance his takeover. With that money yet to be repaid, Donald remains keen to sell the club, leaving many fans angry and upset with the club’s current situation.

Steve Wraith plays down fresh Newcastle takeover twist

Newcastle United supporters were hit with a fresh twist on their prospective £300m takeover on Thursday evening. The Telegraph revealed a leaked letter from the Premier League’s CEO Richard Masters in which he responds to Hatice Cengiz, who has publicly opposed the Saudi-backed deal since day one. She is the fiance of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi. They claim that the Premier League are “fully considering” calls to stop the takeover from happening. Masters wrote in the letter that he was “extremely sympathetic” to the situation surrounding Cengiz, but refused to meet her following a request. It’s also believed that it is the first time in the PL’s owners and directors test that allegations of murder and human rights abuse have been examined.Magpies fan, actor and popular social media presence Steve Wraith delivered a verdict in response to these claims on Twitter this morning. He played down the report and stated that it would not affect United’s takeover. He said:

Whenever a fresh piece of information breaks surrounding the takeover, many at St James’ Park become worried that their dreams of seeing Mike Ashley gone are in doubt, which is quite understandable considering just how long this process has already taken – it’s been in the hands of the PL for two months.

However, it’s majorly encouraging to hear comments like Wraith’s as he is rather confident of the Saudi-backed consortium’s chances of taking control of the club in due course.

Chelsea: Marcos Alonso could be latest addition to Newcastle takeover transfer list

Newcastle are reportedly interested in snapping up Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, who could be on his way out of London this summer.

The Spaniard, who has been with the Blues for four years, could be about to be ousted from the first team as Frank Lampard’s interest in Ben Chilwell continues to grow.

According to The Mirror (14/06, p72), the Magpies have their sights on bringing Alonso to Tyneside once the reported takeover is complete.

The 29-year-old has been an integral part for Chelsea in the last four years, becoming almost untouchable as a Premier League starter in that time. However, this season Alonso has seen more of the bench than he would like, with new manager Lampard opting for others above him.

There is no denying the Spanish international’s commitment to the team though, amassing a total of 140 appearances in blue and tallying an impressive number of 22 goals and 17 assists (via Transfermarkt). Alonso has also helped Chelsea lift the Premier League trophy and an FA Cup, as well as the club’s most recent accolade after they were crowned Europa League champions last season.

The left-back should certainly benefit a team in transition like Newcastle, but is his time really over at Stamford Bridge?

Alonso has established himself as such a reliable player for the Blues that it would be hard to see him sporting another team’s colours next season. However, it seems Lampard has a plan in place to kit out this Chelsea side and make them challenge for the Premier League title once more. If the Spaniard has no place in these plans, it would be for the best that he makes his move sooner rather than later.

At 29, he undeniably has plenty of years left in him but, in order to secure first team football, Alonso must consider his options moving forward. If Chelsea upgrade to a younger model in the form of Leicester’s Chilwell, the left-back should opt for a team like the Toon who could be looking for reliable veterans of the game.

His defensive knowledge and ability to get forward will be something that the potential Newcastle owners could be tracking, as well as his history with winning silverware. This prospective move could end up being a very smart one for all parties involved.
