O jogo
Jogando sob seus domínios, a equipe do Paraná iniciou o confronto tentando colocar pressão no Sampaio Corrêa. No entanto, apesar da marcação alta impedindo que o adversário conseguisse sair do seu campo de defesa, porém conseguindo finalizar contra o gol de Marcos com André Luiz, mas a bola acabou subindo demais e indo para longe.
Passado o momento de pressão dos donos da casa, Allan Aal já foi obrigado a fazer a primeira mudança no jogo tirando Fabrício para colocar Hurtado. Por outro lado, o Tubarão, aos poucos, foi melhorando no jogo, conseguindo oferecer mais perigo como na cabeçada pelo lado de fora da rede de Caio Dantas, além de acertar a trave do Tricolor após nova defesa do camisa 1.
Já na reta final da etapa, o panorama do confronto seguiu igual. A Bolívia Querida, por sua vez, seguia insistindo em marcar a saída de bola do rival, conseguindo minimizar os espaços em campo, porém, nas chances que apareciam, acabou não tendo sucesso dando a deixa para a arbitragem mandar os dois times para o vestiário.
Já no segundo tempo, o Sampaio continuou na busca por seu gol. Nos primeiros 15 minutos, a equipe visitante deu trabalho a Marcos como na chance Gustavo Ramos pegando rebote, mas a bola acabando parando na grande defesa do goleiro.
Até meados dos 30 minutos, apesar do ritmo de jogo sendo controlado pelo time maranhenses, o Paraná também chegou a aventurar-se em seu campo de ataque. Na principal jogada dos donos da casa iniciada por Bressan, o meia ajeitou para Jean Victor mandar uma bomba assustando Gustavo.
Percebendo o crescimento do Tricolor no jogo, Léo Condé então optou por promover algumas mudanças em sua equipe, porém em uma delas por conta da lesão do goleiro Gustavo, deixando campo para a entrada de João Gabriel. Por outro lado, Allan também não deixou barato e também acabou recuando para seus suplentes na esperança de conseguir encontrar um tento nos momentos finais.
Mesmo após as substituições, além dos 6 minutos de acréscimos dado pela arbitragem, o marcador acabou não sendo alterado no Durival Britto fazendo com que partida terminasse em 0 a 0.
A noite da última quinta-feira certamente não vai entrar na história do Bragantino. Depois de muita expectativa e discursos otimistas do treinador e elenco, a equipe não rendeu diante do Palmeiras e ficou em situação delicada na Copa do Brasil.

It is not uncommon to see bowlers get a talking-to from the umpires for running on the protected area of the pitch… but batsmen? Less so.That is what Keaton Jennings was warned about as he resumed his Test career, against Pakistan at Headingley. After two balls from Mohammad Abbas, umpires Rod Tucker and Bruce Oxenford came over to discuss where Jennings was taking guard. It seems that, having set up outside his crease, his stride was taking him too far down the pitch.This comes from last year’s update to the Laws, which now take into account batsmen encroaching on the protected area down the middle of the pitch, beginning 5ft/1.52m from the popping crease. Law 41, covering Fair Play, includes the following provision:
Law 41.15.1 The striker shall not adopt a stance in the protected area or so close to it that frequent encroachment is inevitable.The striker may mark a guard on the pitch provided that no mark is unreasonably close to the protected area.
The batsman is entitled to one warning, after which the umpires can choose to call dead ball, and even award five penalty runs to the fielding side.After re-marking his guard (still outside the crease), Jennings was seen checking with Tucker, at square leg, a couple of balls later, and was apparently within acceptable limits. Despite having another thing to worry about on his return to the Test side, he was able to retain focus and help England put on their best opening stand of 2018.
It looks set to be another grim season for those of an Everton persuasion, with the Toffees currently languishing just a point above the relegation zone following Saturday's dismal defeat at home to newly-promoted strugglers, Luton Town.
After two successive seasons in which they have just about scraped survival, the hope had been that the Goodison outfit would be able to kick on under former Burnley hero, Sean Dyche, yet the early indications are that it could be more of the same this time around.
In truth, the Merseysiders continue to suffer as a result of the mismanagement that has occurred at boardroom level in recent times, with owner Farhad Moshiri having splashed the cash erratically over the years with limited success.
The Premier League mainstays have notably forked out £45m for Gylfi Sigurdsson and £35m for Alex Iwobi during Moshiri's time at the helm, albeit with such investments having failed to see a return to the golden days under David Moyes, in which the club were regularly challenging for European qualification.
Such highs now appear a distant memory for the club and its supporters, with it hard to think of too many marquee signings who have arrived and hit the ground running at Goodison Park, such as £27m man Cenk Tosun – who scored just 11 goals in 61 games in all competitions.
The Turkish marksman is not alone in having flattered to deceive under Moshiri's watch, with current first-team asset, Andre Gomes, also struggling to perform of late – as his plummetting market valuation can attest to.
Why did Everton sign Andre Gomes?
The 6 foot 2 playmaker – who is currently sidelined with injury – had begun his career on the books at Benfica and then La Liga side Valencia, prior to joining Catalan giants Barcelona on a £29m deal back in the summer of 2016.
It was just two years later that the Portuguese maestro was seeking a swift exit from Camp Nou after failing to establish himself in that glittering side, with the player at the time describing it as a "kind of hell" after even being booed by his own supporters as a marker of his woes.
That 'hellish' period allowed those at Everton to pounce in 2018 as Gomes' compatriot, Marco Silva, brought him to the club on a season-long loan deal, with the likes of Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne also joining from Barca in that same window.
Such a surprise triple swoop emphasised the strong ambition that the likes of Moshiri and Silva had at the time, with the current Fulham boss going on to lead the club to a respectable eighth-place finish that season – sparking a permanent stay in England for Gomes.
How much did Everton pay for Andre Gomes?
While previously described as "useless" and "incredibly frustrating" during his time in Catalonia – in the words of writer Muhammed Butt – a positive debut season at Everton saw the Grijo native secured for the long-term by Silva and co in the summer of 2019.
After making 29 appearances in all competitions during his loan stint, Gomes was then snapped up for a reported fee of around £22m, with the Toffees managing to fend off rival interest from West Ham United, who had seen bids of £18m and £20m rejected at the time.
Hailed as a "really important player" by his manager following that marquee move, the European Championship winner looked like blossoming into a mainstay of the side at Goodison Park, although it has proven a frustrating, injury-ravaged stint since then.
How many appearances has Gomes made for Everton?
Despite having joined the club just over five years ago, the 30-year-old has still only made 100 appearances in all competitions such has been the regularity of his spells on the sidelines, having failed to make 20 starts in a single Premier League season since 2018/19.
The experienced asset was even shipped off on loan to Ligue 1 side Lille last term after falling down the pecking order under Frank Lampard, going on to score three times and provide two assists in 27 games in all competitions in France.

That return is not far off what the 29-cap international has achieved throughout his time at Goodison – two goals and seven assists – having perhaps been better suited to life in Ligue 1, instead of the rigours of English football.
How much is Andre Gomes worth now?
Following that year out on loan, it is perhaps something of a surprise that Gomes remains on the books at his parent club, with rumours having been rife over the summer that Dyche and co were looking to move him on.
With the midfielder raking in a reported salary of around £112k-per-week, the Merseysiders were seemingly desperate to shift him from the wage bill, with a year still left to run on his existing deal at the club.
Alas, the forgotten man remains part of Dyche's squad for the current campaign, albeit while having yet to feature after yet again being hampered by injury.
Although the Toffees boss has indicated that Gomes still has a role to play this season – having "really enjoyed watching" the returning enigma in training – it remains to be seen if there will be a way for the Portuguese talent to truly force his way back into the side.

If, however, a departure is to occur in January, it looks as if Everton will have to take a substantial hit on their initial investment due to his expiring contract, with CIES Football Observatory valuing the one-time Boavista youth product at just €5m (£4m).
That is a decline of £18m in relation to Gomes' initial cost, with it fair to say that the club have not enjoyed value for money following that prior, high-profile signing.
In truth, the sooner his injury-plagued, Goodison nightmare comes to an end the better as far as Everton are concerned, with the player having seemingly outstayed his welcome at the club.

Desde o Lille-FRA, clube que atuou após sair de Londres, o marfinense deu sinais que perdeu um pouco da explosão sem a bola no pé. Na França, atuou como segundo atacante em boa parte da passagem.
Não foi diferente no Hertha Berlin-ALE, última equipe que defendeu antes de assinar com o Botafogo. Apesar de ter acumulado momentos pela ponta na capital alemã, o marfinense terminou a passagem no futebol europeu atuando mais centralizado, com liberdade para sair da área e explorando os espaços criados pela referência do setor, um autêntico segundo atacante.

Glasgow Rangers could be set to lose one of their first-team players in January, with a BBC pundit claiming that he wouldn't be able to refuse the opportunity to join the club who are interested in him.

In the Scottish Premiership, Philippe Clement’s side have made a mixed start to the new campaign having won five and lost three of their opening eight games under Michael Beale, now sitting seven points behind Celtic.

“Wayne Rooney is apparently looking to bring in former England colleague Jack Butland, the Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper. Jack started his career at Birmingham City, Jack joined Rangers after leaving Crystal Palace when Mick Beale took charge.
"I think Jack would jump at the chance of working under Wayne, and at 30, he’s six years younger than the current experienced Birmingham City goalkeeper John Ruddy.
"I don’t necessarily think Jack is a better goalkeeper than Ruddy but at 36 now, with Wayne looking to grow the club, the ages of the players will be an important factor and part of his thinking.”

How good is Jack Butland?
Standing at 6 foot 5, Butland is an absolute colossus in the net and his height has certainly contributed to keeping the ball out of danger in a physical league this season, as he’s already been dubbed a “world-class” goalkeeper by journalist Josh Bunting.
The Bristol-born talent has kept seven clean sheets in 16 appearances for the Teddy Bears since signing on the dotted line (Transfermarkt – Butland statistics), and with that impressive record, he’s also been doing some top draw shot-stopping which hasn't gone unnoticed.
Butland, who earns £40k-per-week (Rangers salaries), has made 15 saves from 21 shots on target against over the course of the current campaign, giving him a 76.2% save success rate (FBRef – Rangers statistics), so it’s vital that chiefs do everything they can to fend off interest from Birmingham and retain their star's services beyond January.

This summer, Everton unconventionally utilised the loan markets to strengthen their personnel by signing Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma both on initial temporary deals with a view to making them permanent past this campaign.
It's ultimately risk-free from a Toffees perspective, the ball in Everton's court if they then decide to pull the plug on the prospective deals if both Harrison and Danjuma fail to perform at Goodison Park.
Both players – who have relocated to Merseyside temporarily from Leeds United and Villarreal, respectively – haven't set the world alight by any stretch of the imagination early into their fledging Everton careers.
Harrison and Danjuma have a combined three goals in Everton blue, with the former also assisting another versus AFC Bournemouth.
But, although their starts on Merseyside have been unspectacular, they should both play far better in the long-term than Joshua King managed when he joined the Toffees as a late January addition in 2021 on a short-term deal.

The 62-time Norway international unusually packed his bags and departed Bournemouth for Everton for a nominal fee, the Toffees thinking they had struck gold by getting a player in who had bagged goals at Premier League level previously on the cheap.
Before signing for Everton, King had netted 53 goals in 186 appearances for the Cherries.
48 of those strikes would come in the top-flight, the Toffees hoping he could add a few more to his resume with Everton.
Unfortunately to those with allegiances to the Blues, King's transfer would turn out to be a waste of time.
How did Joshua King perform for Everton?
King wouldn't add a single goal to his Premier League scoring tally with the Blues, playing a grand total of 138 minutes for the Toffees in the top flight, all coming off the bench with zero goal contributions.
Former Everton striker and football pundit Marcus Bent labelled the purchase of King as "strange" in retrospect when speaking to FootballFanCast, never really giving King a chance to shine after securing him on a short-term basis.
He said: "They signed him on a six-month contract and didn't give him a chance – he never started a single game, that's weird if you've only got someone for six months, Ancelotti clearly didn't fancy him."
He was unsurprisingly released in the summer of 2021 alongside Robin Olsen and Theo Walcott, a bizarre transfer altogether.

However, since departing Goodison in bemusing circumstances, the one-time Manchester United man has refound his mojo once more.
How has King performed since leaving Everton?
Watford would swoop in for the Norwegian attacker on a free transfer directly after his exit from Everton, having a mixed spell with the Hornets in a one-year stay.
King's most memorable moment in a Watford strip came when he netted a hat-trick against Everton in front of the Goodison Park faithful who used to cheer him on, the one-time Toffees dud enacting his revenge in emphatic style as Watford won 5-2 on the day.
The 31-year-old forward has since plied his trade in Turkey with Fenerbahce after leaving Vicarage Road, again showing the Toffees what they missed out by not giving him a proper chance.
In the 2023/24 season alone, King has notched up seven goals and assists from just ten appearances – outscoring the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin who has three goals in all competitions whilst new striker signings Beto and Youssef Chermiti at Goodison Park have only one goal between them.
Harshly treated at Everton arguably, the Oslo-born attacker hasn't let the Toffees setback completely derail his career and has since found new homes to call his own to recapture his goalscoring best.
