Porém, o estafe do Nacional recusou a proposta.

– Criatividade, né? Fizemos vaquinha virtual, fizemos a nossa outra ação, o Mar Branco Virtual para ajudar a pagar as premiações atrasadas.

Arteta could bench Jorginho to unleash "phenomenal" Arsenal dynamo

Arsenal are back in action this afternoon, as Mikel Arteta’s side host Burnley at the Emirates Stadium in the bid to return to winning ways in the Premier League.

Last time out the Gunners’ unbeaten start to the league campaign ended at the hands of Newcastle United, as the Magpies won 1-0 at St James’ Park in controversial fashion following a second-half strike from Anthony Gordon.

Vincent Kompany’s side pose a contrasting challenge to that of last week’s duel, as the Clarets arrive in the capital with just four points, sitting 19th in the table with only one win to their name so far.

Despite Arsenal being the favourites on paper, the visitors will be desperate for a result this afternoon, reinforcing the importance of Arteta’s side returning to their best in order to rebuild the momentum.

Arsenal team news vs Burnley

After beating Sevilla midweek in the Champions League at the Emirates, the Gunners were struck with more injury woes to add to their currently worrying collection.

In the 85th minute, goal scorer Bukayo Saka was forced to withdraw with a knock, which could leave him sidelined for the clash against Burnley this afternoon.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arteta shared that the Englishman was in “quite a lot of pain” when he exited the field on Wednesday, adding that the forward did not train on Thursday.

On the topic of injury, the boss confirmed that Jurrien Timber, Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey and Emile Smith-Rowe will not be in contention this afternoon, while sharing that Martin Odegaard is “racing against the clock” to find match fitness after a hip injury.

With a host of key players at risk of not playing against Burnley, Arteta will have some thinking to do ahead of selecting his most appropriate XI to face the clarets, with one name having a strong claim to secure minutes.

The stats that suggest Fabio Vieira should start against Burnley

In the absence of Odegaard and Partey, a midfield pairing of Kai Havertz and Jorginho has been summoned by the manager to questionable effect, giving Fabio Vieira a shout to fight for game time.

With the captain out of action, the Gunners need to identify an assured creative back-up, which the Portuguese whiz can provide when deployed in his favoured number ten role.

Once lauded as “phenomenal” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Vieira has prevailed as one of the top creators in Europe for his form over the past year, averaging a staggering 0.54 assists per 90 to place him in the top 1% of midfielders in that area, via FBref.

The former Porto maestro also averages 1.72 key passes per 90, a far greater average than Jorginho who has averaged only 0.56 per 90 over the past year.

While the Italian brings experience, with all respect to Burnley, now could be the perfect opportunity for Arteta to unleash Vieira in the bid to allow him to show his worth at a time of need for an established playmaker in midfield.

There are plenty of decisions for the manager to make ahead of the clash, with the 23-year-old one of those crying out for minutes this season.

Sanath Jayasuriya states his 'integrity and transparency' in wake of ACU charges

The former Sri Lanka captain also said the charges allege he has not been co-operative with the ACU’s investigations only, and do not pertain to any match or pitch-fixing

Former Sri Lanka captain and selector Sanath Jayasuriya has said he has “always conducted [himself] with integrity and transparency with matters concerning the sport,” in the wake of being charged on two counts under the ICC’s anti-corruption code.Jayasuriya, 49, also pointed out that the charges laid upon him “do not contain any allegations pertaining to match fixing, pitch fixing or any other similar corrupt activity,” and that they were charges that allege he has not been co-operative with the ACU’s investigations only. He made these statements in a press release on Tuesday. The ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) is understood to have interviewed Jayasuriya several times before their charges were eventually laid. Some of these discussions had centred around a phone that Jayasuriya had been asked to hand over to the ACU, but had failed to present in a timely manner. Among the reasons Jayasuriya provided for the delay was that he had personal materials and videos on that phone that he was reluctant for officials to see.In his release, Jayasuriya stated that he is “not in any position to release any comments at this moment” as he is first required to to submit his response to the ACU inside 14 days. “I am under strict legal advice that no comment is to be made in respect of the charges as such a course would offend the ICC rules,” the statement said. With the ACU investigations still ongoing, it is possible that more figures involved in Sri Lankan cricket could be charged under the anti-corruption code in the coming weeks and months. The ACU general manager Alex Marshall had also briefed the players in the two teams in the ongoing England v Sri Lanka ODI series in order to “ensure they remain alert to the risks of would-be corruptors”.The charges against Jayasuriya relate to failure or refusal to cooperate with an ACU investigation and obstructing or delaying an investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information which may be relevant. They were laid following more than a year of ACU focus on Sri Lanka’s 2017 ODI series against Zimbabwe.Jayasuriya was chairman of selectors until he and his committee resigned in September 2017, following widespread criticism of the committee’s performance. He had also been chief selector in a previous two-year stint, that ran from early 2013 to the end of the 2015 World Cup. The charges are understood to relate to alleged incidents that occurred during the second of those stints.Concerns had surfaced over a year ago in the media about Sri Lanka’s performance during their home ODI series against Zimbabwe last September. The five-match series, closely fought, was eventually won by Zimbabwe 3-2.It is understood that there were specific concerns about the fourth ODI of the series, in Hambantota, which Zimbabwe eventually won on the basis of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method despite Sri Lanka setting a 301-run target initially.

Sean Williams' 88 keeps Zimbabwe fighting on attritional day

Zimbabwe recovered from 129 for 4 to end the day at 236 for 5, as Bangladesh’s three spinners got through 67 overs on a slow, low pitch

The Report by Mohammad Isam03-Nov-2018AFP

The first day of Test cricket in Sylhet will be remembered for Sean Williams’ fine 88, which frustrated the Bangladesh spinners. Zimbabwe ended the day on 236 for five, and possibly feeling happier than the home side. PJ Moor and Regis Chakabva, batting on 37 and 20 respectively, played out the last hour without further damage after Williams fell on the brink of the final drinks break.Williams, who struck nine fours in his 173-ball stay, was involved in two partnerships that promised much before ending in the 30s, with Hamilton Masakadza and Sikandar Raza. The loss of those two batsmen in the second session left Zimbabwe at an uncertain 129 for 4; their best period came after that.Zimbabwe only added 64 in the middle session, in 31 overs, as they slowed down after Raza’s dismissal for 19. At one stage, Williams and Moor played out six successive maidens from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nazmul Islam. But they hung on, and their partnership grew in confidence, and grew to 72, after the tea break.Moor’s cover-driven boundary off Taijul Islam, in the second over after tea, injected life into the innings, and Williams struck the same bowler for successive fours through point and midwicket in his next over. More boundaries came after Moor successfully reviewed an lbw decision off Abu Jayed – the ball was easily missing leg stump. Moor slammed Jayed through point and lofted Mehidy over mid-off, while Williams swept Nazmul twice in one over, either side of the deep backward square leg fielder.Williams’ dismissal came against the run of play, when Mahmudullah brought himself on and found some turn to draw his edge, which Mehidy caught very well at slip, stretching fully to his left to complete the catch.Masakadza earlier had struck three fours and two sixes in scoring 52 in the first session. He was severe on anything too full, and hammered all his boundaries off Taijul, blasting him down the ground for both the sixes, and picking up his fours off either cuts or sweeps. But there was trouble at the other end. Brian Chari was bowled slogged Taijul across the line. Taijul then removed Brendan Taylor with a wonderfully flighted delivery that drew the batsman forward and went on with the angle to take his inside edge before the short-leg fielder, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, snapped up the tickle.Masakadza and Williams took Zimbabwe to 85 for 2 at lunch but in the first over of the middle session, Jayed trapped Masakadza with a delivery that moved sharply into his front pad.Williams and Sikandar Raza added 44 for the fourth wicket, with both batsmen picking up two fours each, before Nazmul picked up his maiden Test wicket, clean-bowling Raza through bat and pad for 19.Williams and Moor made a slow start thereafter but as their confidence grew, the Bangladesh spinners found it hard to beat their bat for 29 overs.Taijul finished with two wickets, having bowled 27 overs. Mehidy was tidy, not giving away too many runs, while Jayed and Nazmul took one wicket each without offering too much of a spark.

Leeds and 49ers interested in signing “unbelievable” full-back for Farke

Leeds United are showing some promising form in the Championship and now look ready to open their transfer chequebook in January after identifying a talented young target, according to a new report.

Leeds United cast eye to festive period…

Much goes on during the festive period in football, with a congested fixture period usually on the cards for those concerned, alongside the reality of the January transfer window drawing ever closer to opening for business. Leeds are no different in this sense and will have to factor both of these upcoming events into consideration in the next few weeks as Daniel Farke continues to do a sterling job at Elland Road.

So far, the Whites have given a good account of themselves all told, claiming 31 points from their opening 16 fixtures in the English second-tier ahead of their trip to face Rotherham United on Friday evening. Nevertheless, Farke doesn't believe that his side will feel added pressure to cut the gap on Ipswich Town to five points at the AESSEAL Stadium, as journalist Phil Hay described his response to the notion, stating on social media platform X:

"Farke doesn't think the chance to put pressure on Leicester/Ipswich with an early game is significant. Says that in his view, the last five or six games of the season are where you get scenarios where you have to hold your nerve. #lufc."

Casting an eye to the January transfer window, Leeds are keen on Cape Town Spurs striker Luke Baartman; however, they will face competition from other English clubs and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic to sign the 17-year-old. Now, a fresh report has emerged detailing that Farke has a promising young defender on his radar as the Yorkshire outfit start to make inroads concerning their New Year transfer plans.

Leeds United want Sam Curtis

According to 90min, Leeds, and by extension the 49ers Enterprises, appear to be in the market for a new full-back and have identified St Patrick's Athletic youngster Sam Curtis as a target.

Nevertheless, competition to sign the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is vast and Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough, Hull City and Celtic are all keen to swoop for the right-back, who is expected to leave his homeland in the Irish off-season.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke.

Tom Grivosti, who is a teammate of Curtis in Dublin, afforded the 17-year-old high praise earlier this year in an interview, as he stated when asked about his abilities:

"For a young kid I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s unbelievable. Even in his general play he is getting better all the time."

In years gone by, Leeds have had a number of Irish players who have gone on to feature for the club, including the likes of Gary Kelly, Robbie Keane, Ian Harte and Aidy White, among others. Now, the Whites could be set to once again tap into the Emerald Isle's talent pool in a move that could potentially secure a star of the future at Elland Road, with the club not afraid to hand youngsters first-team opportunities, as seen with Archie Gray this season.

Mark Wallace appointed Glamorgan director of cricket

Glamorgan have continued their winter restructuring by bringing in Wallace after Hugh Morris stepped down from the role

Glamorgan have continued their winter restructuring by naming former captain Mark Wallace as the club’s new director of cricket. Wallace, 37, succeeds Hugh Morris in the role, after Morris opted to step down and focus on his responsibilities as chief executive.Wallace spent 18 years as a player at Glamorgan, captaining the side between 2013 and 2015, before moving to work with the Professional Cricketers’ Association after his retirement in 2017. He is a former chairman of the PCA, as well as a Level 4-qualified coach.”I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to come back to Glamorgan and I’m looking forward to working with a young squad of players and alongside a talented coaching team,” Wallace said.”However, it won’t just be a question of working closely with the first team. We need to ensure we maximise all our resources and that means improving Welsh cricket in general and developing closer relationships with the clubs and Cardiff MCCU.”I’m extremely grateful to the PCA for everything they’ve done for me and the past two years has been a brilliant learning experience within a high quality organisation. Having spent a few years outside of Glamorgan, I believe I can come into the club with new ideas and a fresh perspective to lead the club in the right direction.”Glamorgan endured a testing 2018 season, finishing bottom of Division Two of the County Championship and failing to progress beyond the group stage in either the Royal London Cup or the Vitality Blast. Following an external review, Morris’ role was split and the incumbent coach, Robert Croft, sacked; last month, Matthew Maynard, another former club stalwart, was appointed interim head coach.Wallace was described as the “standout candidate” for the director of cricket job by Glamorgan chairman, Gareth Williams, who backed him to revive the fortunes of the Welsh county.”We were looking for someone who could lead cricket activities, recruitment, contracts, players and our development programmes, and also work closely with local clubs and universities and he ticked all those boxes,” Williams said.”He has an in-depth knowledge of both the club and professional game in Wales and the culture within Glamorgan having spent years here as a player and captain. Through his work with the PCA he has gained experience outside Glamorgan and developed positive relationships with players and coaches across the country.”He is a fantastic communicator as shown by his time here as captain and his broadcast work and he is a passionate Welshman who has always had the best interests of the club at heart. We’re very confident he will drive Glamorgan forward and help bring success to the club both on and off the pitch.”
