One Manchester United target has been spotted training in the club's shorts, perhaps dropping hints about his desire to complete a move to Old Trafford as his representatives reportedly work to seal a deal this summer.
Man Utd transfer news
Those at Old Trafford have already stolen the headlines twice this summer by welcoming both Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. The latter arrived amid interest from Real Madrid and is a major coup for the Red Devils. At 18 years old, Yoro should prove to be a worthwhile investment for years to come at the heart of Erik ten Hag's backline.
Speaking to Manchester United's official website after completing the move, Yoro said: “Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.
“I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new team-mates. I cannot wait to get started.”

The pair could form an excellent partnership in the middle of midfield.

The central defender isn't the only player with his eyes set on Old Trafford either. According to Firenze Viola via Sport Witness, Sofyan Amrabat's representatives are working on a deal with Manchester United which would see the midfielder return to the Red Devils in another loan or a permanent deal worth a reported €12m (£10m) this summer.
Having spent last season on loan at Manchester United, Amrabat certainly hasn't hidden his love for the club, wearing the club's shorts whilst gearing up for pre-season in a recent training video, and he reportedly wants an Old Trafford return before the end of next month.
Whether United decide to sanction the midfielder's return remains to be seen, however.
"Important" Amrabat would add depth
Whilst it's difficult to see Amrabat claiming a starting role after failing to do exactly that on loan last season, the Fiorentina man would at least add some much-needed depth to Manchester United's midfield. Given that Casemiro's Old Trafford future is still in doubt too, the Morroco international may yet emerge to play a role if he completes a move this summer.
Ten Hag certainly didn't shy away from praising the midfielder last season, saying via The Metro after his side defeated Newcastle United: "I think he played a very good game. Very important for us in the pressing and the counter-press. He’s doing a really good job keeping the team together, keeping the team compact and we had good moments to press, to control the game."
If the Red Devils can seal a deal for around £10m, less than the €20m (£16.7m) they could have signed him for, then it's one worth pursuing before the transfer window slams shut at the end of next month. Arrivals such as Zirkzee and Yoro will steal the headlines, but the addition of vital depth should not become an afterthought.

Hardik Pandya has been included in India’s 18-man squad for the first two Tests of the home series against England, starting next month. ESPNcricinfo understands the national selectors, who met today, have also handed a call-up to left-arm spinner Axar Patel to strengthen the spin department. The squad was finalised by the newly assembled Indian selection committee headed by former India fast bowler Chetan Sharma. Attending the meeting virtually was India captain Virat Kohli, who had returned home in December from the Australia tour to attend the birth of his first child. Also present at the meeting, which took place hours after India’s epic triumph in the Gabba Test, were the four other selectors: Sunil Joshi, Abey Kuruvilla, Debashish Mohanty and Harvinder Singh, who is in Brisbane.Apart from Kohli, also making a return was Ishant Sharma. He was forced to miss the Test series in Australia as the selectors wanted him to regain complete match fitness despite him recovering completely by mid-November from the injury he picked up during the IPL. Ishant, who is three matches away from becoming only the second India fast bowler after Kapil Dev to play in 100 Tests, proved his match fitness while turning up for Delhi during the group stage of ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.Along with Ishant, the Indian fast bowling attack will comprise Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur. Both Siraj and Thakur were part of India’s historic series win against Australia.Pandya picked as specialist batsman Pandya – who lost his father last week – has played 11 Tests, the last one being the final match of the 2018 England tour. In 2019 Pandya underwent back surgery, which limited his role to primarily as a batsman. Even in the 2020 IPL, where he played for defending champions Mumbai Indians, Pandya did not bowl. Apart from a stray spell in the second ODI against Australia, Pandya only played as a specialist batsman in the series. In November, after ending as Player of the Series in the T20 leg of the Australia tour, Pandya, during a media conference, conveyed in jest he would be ready to stay back for the Test series if the selectors would ask him. However, Kohli said Pandya would need to start bowling to make a Test comeback. However, at Tuesday’s meeting, it is understood Kohli agreed with the selectors that Pandya was good enough to feature as a specialist batsman at the moment with an eye on working his way back as an allrounder by the time India land in England for the five-match Test series in July.Patel the allrounder pips Nadeem to take Jadeja’s roleThe absence of Ravindra Jadeja, who had a finger surgery recently after the Sydney Test, meant the selectors were on a lookout for an able replacement. With India likely to play three spinners in order to dominate Joe Root’s England on spinner-friendly pitches, the selectors wanted a third option in addition to R Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav. Both Shahbaz Nadeem and Patel were the lead contenders based on their experience and success in first-class cricket including at India A. Nadeem, who has played a solitary Test, against South Africa in 2019, has 443 first-class wickets, 83 of which have come for India A at an average of under 30. It is understood the selectors preferred Patel, who has played white-ball cricket for India, due to his lower-order batting prowess with which he had made an impact in the white-ball segment.Even in first-class cricket, Patel, who plays for Gujarat (the last two Tests are scheduled in Ahmedabad).has decent numbers as a bowling allrounder: 134 wickets and 1665 runs in 39 first-class games including a century and 13 half-centuries.Nadeem, the selectors found, had a weaker bowling form in the last two years in first-class cricket compared to Patel, who played a pivotal role in Gujarat making the Ranji semi-finals in the 2019-20 season.Rahul to return from second TestRahul, who has not played in the longer format since 2019 tour of West Indies, sprained his wrist midway into the Test series in Australia. However, he is on the mend and based on his fitness status, the selectors have drafted him for the England series from the second Test. The selectors are set to meet once again during or immediately after the second Test to pick to update the squad for the final two matches of the series including the day-night Tests, which will be played in newly built ground in Motera. It is expected the panel will at the time assess the fitness status of the fast bowling pair of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav along with Jadeja, who all picked different injures in Australia. While Shami had an elbow fracture, Yadav pulled his calf and Jadeja had a dislocated finger. Natarajan rested T Natarajan, who has had a fairy tale few months since the 2020 IPL, followed by successful debut for India in all three formats on the Australian tour, has been rested by the selectors. The idea being Natarajan, who travelled to Australia directly from the IPL and also missed the birth of his daughter, would be ready for the white-ball segment of the homes series against England, which comprises of five T20Is and three ODIs.Nadeem among standbysThe selectors have also named four standbys, who will be inducted into the squad in case anyone from the main squad needed to be replaced. These standbys, essentially back-ups, will not be travelling with the India squad, but will be pulled out of the second domestic tournament, which the BCCI will announce shortly, if there is a requirement.Among the standbys, all of whom have featured in India A, are India and Jharkhand left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, Andhra wicket-keeper KS Bharat, Bengal opening batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran, Gujarat batsman Priyank Panchal and Rajasthan legspinner Rahul Chahar. Also part of the enhanced squad, which has become a norm due to the pandemic, will be five net bowlers comprising: the fast bowling trio of Ankit Rajpoot (Uttar Pradesh), Avesh Khan (Madhya Pradesh) and Sandeep Warrier (Kerala). There are also two spinners among the net bowlers: Karnataka spin-bowling allrounder K Gowtham and Uttar Pradesh left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar.Main squad: Openers: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal Middle-order: Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, Wriddhiman Saha, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul (subject to fitness after first Test) Fast bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur Spinners: R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel Standbyes: KS Bharat (wicketkeeper), Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shahbaz Nadeem, Rahul Chahar, Priyank Panchal Net bowlers: Ankit Rajpoot, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Warrier, K Gowtham, Saurabh Kumar
Test captain attaining greatness, says selector, but white-ball results not suffering from absence
Andrew Miller11-Feb-2021Joe Root’s attainment of new heights as a Test batsman is a vindication of his continued omission from England’s T20I plans, according to the national selector, Ed Smith, who believes that the ECB’s focus on player rest and rotation is a key reason for the team’s successes across all three formats.England’s 227-run victory in the first Test against India in Chennai has carried Root’s men to the top of the ICC World Test Championship table, even though they will need two more wins in the next three matches to book a place in the final in June. But, with the white-ball squad currently boasting the No.1-ranked team in both ODIs and T20Is, Smith is adamant that the benefits of allowing Root to focus on his primary duties in red-ball cricket outweigh the loss of his expertise in the shorter formats, even though he was England’s outstanding performer in their run to the last World T20 final in India five years ago.”Nothing’s changed with the position on Joe Root,” Smith said. “Joe is one of England’s greatest-ever cricketers, that’s becoming clearer by the day, by the match. Joe’s sequence of batting in Test cricket is the best sequence of batting I’ve ever seen from an England batsman.”Joe Root has been in rich form in Test cricket•BCCI
With consecutive scores of 228, 186 and 218 in his last three Tests against Sri Lanka and India, Root has lifted his Test average back above 50, and surged into the top three in the ICC batting rankings, after a relatively fallow 2020. But with eight more Tests against India this year alone, as well as two against the No.1-ranked Test side New Zealand and an Ashes campaign at the end of the year, Smith recognises that he may have little time to focus on the limited-overs game.”He’s been absolutely remarkable, we can all celebrate that,” Smith said. “But Joe has an incredibly busy year coming up. One of the biggest years of his career. And it’s also the case that England have won seven out of eight T20I series, with the eighth being drawn.”Over that period of time we have become the best batting team in the world, statistically, while Joe is playing [Test cricket] at a level that I’ve never seen any England batsman play at. We believe for the time being, that’s a good arrangement.”It’s an extraordinary thing to be winning across those three formats to such a high degree, and at the heart of that is player management.”The issue of player rotation has been in sharp focus in the past few weeks, with Jonny Bairstow’s absence for the first two Tests in India attracting scrutiny given his confident displays at No.3 in Sri Lanka. And now, in the wake of a famous win in Chennai, England will contest the remainder of their Test series in India without first-choice wicketkeeper and senior pro, Jos Buttler, who has been rested ahead of an intensive white-ball schedule next month, with Ben Foakes stepping up in his place.Related

Joe Root moves to No. 3 in Test batting rankings, Virat Kohli slips to fifth
All the things Joe Root did right against India's spinners in Chennai
Buttler’s keeping on this Asia tour has been faultless, while his status within the dressing-room is another reason why England might have been tempted to waive his break from the game, given the scale of the opportunity that the team have earned through their performances in the first Test.Smith, however, was adamant that the right decision had been made in the long term.”We worked really closely with Jos on his schedule,” he said. “It was very much working together for the good of England cricket. Everyone felt that was the right thing to do, so no there was no thought of a last-minute U-turn.”Jos has been integral to England’s success across those formats, it’s no coincidence that Jos coming back into Test cricket, he’s bought a lot to that Test team”But player welfare is absolutely critical. And we believe that a large group of players, capable of performing at a high level, in all conditions across formats, is the best approach and we’re very confident in that approach.”Joe Root produced a string of outstanding performances at the 2016 World T20 in India•PUNIT PARANJPE/AFP via Getty Images
England’s Chennai victory was their sixth in a row in overseas conditions, dating back to the Cape Town Test in South Africa last January, and as Smith pointed out, it’s not been unusual for England to have lacked a string of senior players throughout that run of performances.James Anderson was injured for the final two-and-a-half matches in South Africa, and has been rotating with Stuart Broad around a solitary place in the team this winter. Ben Stokes was also rested for the Sri Lanka series, along with England’s first-choice opener, Rory Burns, who took time out for the birth of his first child.”I think we’re looking for four things,” Smith said of the rotation policy. “We need to look after those players and make sure they are peaking when we really need them most. We need a larger group of players, so we’re not just relying on the same guys over and over again and then they’re at risk of physical and mental problems.”Also, we look within that at rest and rotation. so we are able to have a continually good XI on the field at all times in all formats. And the fourth thing, which is absolutely central, is we want playing XIs in all formats that can win all around the world, not just in home conditions”We believe that we can do that, and the results we’ve been getting over a two-and-a-half year period show that player management is an area where you can gain a real edge in elite sports.”
Heung-Min Son has been one of the best signings in Tottenham Hotspur’s modern history, exceeding all expectations following his £22m move from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015.
The South Korean attacker has cemented himself as a club legend, scoring 162 goals for the Lilywhites in his 408 appearances in all competitions.
He formed an excellent partnership with Harry Kane during the Englishman’s time in North London, with the pair combining for more goals than any other duo in Premier League history – assisting each other 47 times.
wilfried-gnonto-kane-son-tottenham-opinion
After Kane’s move to Bayern Munich last summer, it left Son with the task of operating as a central striker, compared to his usual left-wing role which has seen him thrive over the years.
However, the potential addition of one talent this summer could allow him to slot back into his favoured position, whilst also forming a new formidable partnership to catapult Spurs up the Premier League table in 2024/25.
Tottenham want £86m superstar this summer
According to Football Insider, Tottenham made a move by registering their interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, but face competition from multiple other English clubs this summer.
Viktor Gyokeres for Sporting Lisbon
Liverpool and Chelsea are also credited with an interest, whilst local rivals Arsenal are claimed to have made the Swedish forward their number one target during this transfer window.
All the interest is hardly a surprise given his goalscoring record, with the 26-year-old registering a staggering 29 goals and ten assists in his 33 matches in Liga Portugal last season – making him the division’s top scorer by eight goals.
Everyone knows a goalscorer is worth their weight in gold in today’s market, with Sporting setting a £86m price tag to prise him away from the Portuguese club ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Whilst he would be a very expensive addition for Ange Postecoglou’s side, he would add that cutting edge his side are lacking, with the Swede able to benefit from Son’s incredible ability in the final third.
Why Son would be perfect for Gyokeres at Tottenham
There have been huge changes at the club since Son’s move to North London, including a new stadium, various managers, and a huge turnover of players as the club look to push for a consistent place in the Premier League’s top four.
Last season was one of his most impressive campaigns at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, scoring 17 and registering 10 assists, a tally of 12 more than any other Spurs player last season.
However, his stats per 90 would fall perfectly into the hands of Gyokeres, with his goals undoubtedly helping Postecoglou’s side increase their chances of securing a Champions League spot.

The South Korean averaged 0.3 assists per 90 last season – ranking him within the top 6% of all attackers in Europe – a figure that would allow the “incredible” Gyokeres, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, to replicate his excellent goalscoring figures in England’s top flight.
Son has also averaged 4.3 progressive passes and 3.7 progressive carries – with two of the latter per 90 seeing him take the ball into the opposition’s penalty area, allowing him to create frequent opportunities for the 26-year-old Swede.
Both players have demonstrated their ability to score goals and contribute with assists for their teammates in recent seasons, with the pair potentially excelling together should the Sporting Lisbon forward move to Spurs this summer.
Sporting CP strikerViktor Gyokeres.
He could provide the added goal threat that Postecoglou has been searching for, whilst also creating a partnership similar to that of Son and Kane, which could provide to be vital in the club’s hunt for a return to Champions League football.
