Celtic completed a huge deal in the January transfer window as it was revealed that they had agreed a pre-contract with Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.

The Scotland international’s contract with the Premier League side is set to expire at the end of the season, which is when the defender will officially sign for the Hoops to start his second spell at Parkhead.

Tierney, as you can see in the graphic above, enjoyed an incredibly successful time with Celtic after he came up through the academy system, winning five Scottish Premiership titles and providing a big threat at the top end of the pitch.

It will very interesting to see what the left-back situation does look like when the experienced Gunners defender eventually makes the move to Celtic in the summer window.

Greg Taylor is currently the first-choice left-back in Glasgow after seeing off a challenge from Alex Valle, whose loan from Barcelona was cut short in the January transfer window.

The Scottish full-back has started 18 of his 20 appearances in the Premiership so far this season, but Sportnet recently reported that he has signed a pre-contract agreement with Dinamo Zagreb ahead of a free transfer to Croatia in the summer.

As you can see in the table above, Taylor has offered a big creative threat from left-back and has been solid defensively, winning more than half of his duels.

Jeffrey Schlupp, meanwhile, was brought in on loan from Crystal Palace on deadline day to provide cover and competition in the left-back position.

The Ghana international won 100% (3/3) of his aerial duels in 18 minutes on his debut against Dundee, before starting the 5-0 win over Raith Rovers on Saturday.

Schlupp, at 32 and only on loan, is not the long-term answer to the left-back problem looming at Parkhead, with Taylor on his way to Dinamo Zagreb, and Brendan Rodgers could instantly replace him by unearthing the club’s new Tierney in Matthew Anderson.

The Scotland U21 international has spent the past 18 months or so on loan at Austrian side Admira Wacker and has shown potential to be a future star for the Hoops.

He spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan in Austria and caught the eye with a return of one goal and six assists in 21 appearances as a left-back, which shows that the 20-year-old starlet has the potential to be a Tierney-esque figure who can provide a big threat in the final third from that role.

Anderson, who managed four goals and four assists in 25 matches for Celtic’s B team, did have a chance to impress with three appearances pre-season tour of the USA last summer and Rodgers described him as an “attacking threat” from left-back.

The Scottish youngster has produced one goal and one assist in nine league matches during the current campaign and the Celtic boss should provide the defender with an opportunity to stake a claim for a first-team spot next season, with Schlupp and Taylor set to be on their way.

Anderson, who still has plenty of time left to develop and improve, is a Hoops academy graduate with an attacking mindset and quality in the final third, which is why he could end up being Tierney 2.0 for the club.

And who better to learn from than the man himself next season? Rodgers could bring the Admira Wacker star into the first-team group next season and use him as Tierney’s understudy at first, with a view to him being the long-term option in that position.

He was padded up to bat as England collapsed in the latter part of their chase, but he continued to slip down the order and was eventually not needed.England have four days before their semi-final, which is likely to be against India, offering them one more day than the teams who will meet at the SCG on Wednesday. However, at this stage, it seems unlikely that Malan will be able to recover in time.”He was obviously a bit sore coming off the ground,” Adil Rashid said. “Hopefully he’ll be good. We don’t know actually what’s happening yet.”Phil Salt, who is yet to play in the tournament with Alex Hales preferred as Jos Buttler’s opening partner, is the spare batter in the squad. Everton made the last-ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park one to remember as they snatched a draw in the dying embers of their clash with Liverpool on Wednesday night in the Premier League.

Portuguese centre-forward Beto, called upon in the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, opened the scoring for the Toffees with a terrific run and finish in the first half.

A quick response from Alexis Mac Allister, who provided a deft header, levelled the scores at 1-1 before Mohamed Salah put the visitors 2-1 up.

David Moyes’ side never gave up the fight, however, and eventually secured a point to remember when James Tarkowski hammered in a thumping volley in the 98th minute.

The English central defender rescued the result for the Toffees with a sensational strike into the top corner of Alisson’s goal, but his main job throughout the game was to defend his own goal.

Unfortunately, Mac Allister got the better of him for the first Liverpool strike as he timed his run to meet the cross from Salah before the former Burnley star could challenge him to make a clearance.

Tarkowski was also dribbled past once and only won one aerial duel in the 90 minutes, which shows that it was far from a perfect performance from the centre-back from a defensive perspective.

Whilst his slip-ups defensively were not a major issue in the grand scheme of things, as he scored a memorable equaliser, it was his his defensive partner Jarrad Branthwaite who was the real Goodison Park hero because of his sublime defending.

The England international lined up alongside Tarkowski as the left-sided centre-back and if you weren’t sure why he’d previously been labelled with a £100m price tag, Wednesday evening certainly showed why he could be a mega-money player in the making, putting on a defensive clinic with his exceptional work at the back for Moyes’ side.

There was little that Branthwaite could have done to prevent either of Liverpool’s goals. It was Tarkowski who failed to challenge for the first strike and the left-footed star prevented Curtis Jones from scoring with a brilliant last-ditch block moments before Salah’s strike.

The 22-year-old star also assisted the opening goal for Everton with a terrific quick free-kick that sent Beto through on goal, as he showcased his quality on the ball to go along with his defensive work.

As you can see in the table above, Branthwaite significantly outperformed Tarkowski from a defensive perspective, as he made almost twice as many clearances and won a much higher percentage of his duels.

The left-footed star dominated the Liverpool attackers with his physicality and made sure that he was in the right place at the right time to make vital clearances and blocks.

Both players had a hand in one of the Everton goals on the night, but it was the former Carlisle man who was the real hero as he was outstanding on and off the ball throughout the night to help his side to a huge result.

O Ituano começou melhor a partida e quase abriu o placar aos cinco minutos. Córdoba cobrou lateral na área, Rafael Elias recebeu e mandou para fora. Logo depois, o lateral fez novo lançamento, desta vez, com os pés, e Mário Sérgio testou com perigo.

O Criciúma levou perigo pela primeira vez aos 18 minutos. Caio Dantas recebeu lançamento longo, invadiu a área e obrigou Pegorari a fazer a defesa. Lucas Xavier recebeu, cortou para o meio e finalizou para fora.

وكتب خليف، عبر صفحته على “فيس بوك”: “سأكون معكم في التعليق على النّهائي الكبير كأس مصر، الزمالك وبيراميدز، الساعة 21:30 (بتوقيت تونس) على ملعب القاهرة الدولي، من سيتوّج بكأس مصر؟”.

ويأمل الزمالك في إنقاذ موسمه بالفوز بلقب كأس مصر، بعد خسارته في بطولتي الكونفدرالية وكأس الرابطة، وحلوله في المركز الثالث بجدول ترتيب الدوري المصري.

في المقابل، يخوض بيراميدز المباراة بثقة عالية، بعد تتويجه بدوري أبطال إفريقيا لأول مرة، طامحًا لإضافة لقب الكأس إلى إنجازاته، علمًا بأنه يعتبر حامل اللقب في الموسم الماضي على حساب زد.

وكان الزمالك قد تأهل للنهائي بفوزه 2-1 على سيراميكا كليوباترا، بهدفي عبد الله السعيد وأحمد سيد “زيزو”، بينما استطاع بيراميدز الوصول للمباراة النهائية، بعد الفوز على البنك الأهلي، برباعية نظيفة.
