Brighton now very keen on double swoop for Championship "top prospects"

Brighton & Hove Albion are now very keen on a double swoop for two “top prospects” from the Championship, according to a report.

Brighton eyeing talented youngsters

Brighton’s model is built around buying up-and-coming players before selling them on for a huge fee, doing so successfully on many occasions in the past, with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella completing big-money moves to Chelsea.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, the Seagulls continue to look at young players who are impressing across Europe, with Hertha BSC attacking midfielder Ibrahim Maza thought to be of interest after catching the eye in the Bundesliga II.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side were also keen on signing Sunderland youngster Tommy Watson in the January transfer window, but they missed out, meaning West Bromwich Albion’s Tom Fellows has now been identified as a potential alternative target.

Brighton appear to be scouring the Championship for future stars, with a report from The Boot Room revealing they are now very keen on a double swoop for Middlesbrough starlets Bailey and Anton Palmer.

The teenage twins are viewed as two of the most exciting players in their age category, and they have recently been named in the England U17 squad, with Premier League clubs now lining up to get deals done.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on the Middlesbrough duo, with the race for their signatures now starting to hot up ahead of the summer.

Both players have received regular game time for Middlesbrough U18s this season, and Bailey has even been named on the bench for two first-team fixtures, highlighting just how highly he is regarded by the Teesside club.

Brighton could be the perfect move for the Palmer twins

Although Tottenham and Chelsea are traditionally bigger clubs, Brighton have a proven track record of integrating young players in the first team.

Caicedo was provided with a platform to develop his game at the American Express Stadium before joining Chelsea, while this season Carlos Baleba and Jack Hinshelwood are among the young midfielders to receive regular game time.

Consistent first-team football may be difficult to come by at Stamford Bridge, given the Blues’ already bloated squad, while Spurs were also extremely busy in the January transfer window.

As such, joining the Seagulls could make perfect sense for the young midfield duo, as there is a far higher chance they will receive first-team football over the next few years.

Should Brighton win the race for the Palmer twins, there are plenty of indications they could be long-term successes on the South Coast, having been described as “top prospects” by transfer expert Graeme Bailey.

Moyes could now unleash Everton's next Osman in "phenomenal" star

David Moyes is a beloved figure at Everton, there’s no doubting that, with the Scotsman now back at the helm and guiding the Toffees away from any relegation concerns in the Premier League.

But, away from the here and now, he is also a much-loved presence in the blue half of Merseyside for the plethora of top talents he had at his disposal during his first 11 years at the club.

The likes of Tim Cahill, Steven Pienaar and Marouane Fellaini are just a few standout names synonymous with the 61-year-old’s celebrated reign at Goodison Park.

Leon Osman is another name who will also instantly fill the Goodison masses with some nostalgia for yesteryear, having made over 400 appearances for the Blues once upon a time.

As it happens, Moyes may already have their new version…

Leon Osman's legendary status at Everton

The now-retired midfield star gained his first minutes in the senior team towards the start of Moyes’ first tenure, with the Scotsman arriving on the scene in 2002, as Osman then tasted his first chance in the senior team in early 2003.

From that point on, Osman went on to solidify himself as a reliable option in the centre of the park, with a hefty total of 58 goals and 36 assists coming his way from 433 overall appearances.

Still, despite regularly firing home sumptuous strikes, it could be argued that Osman is an underrated hero of Goodison’s past, compared with the aforementioned names of Cahill, Pienaar and Fellaini.

Now, in the modern-era of Moyes’ second Goodison tenure, there is a new face who could go on to become the club’s next Osman over time.

David Moyes' next Leon Osman

Indeed, there are definitely other players at this moment in time who are enjoying the limelight, with Beto one that is adoring his sudden spotlight by amassing six Premier League strikes this season, five of which have come under Moyes’ wing.

But, the return of James Garner in the middle of the park from injury has gone slightly under the radar, yet it could be just what the reinvigorated Blues need centrally.

Everton midfielder James Garner.

With Orel Mangala also sidelined, the ex-Manchester United man has slotted nicely into his team’s last few starting XIs, with an assist even coming his way against Leicester City during his first start since October to get his injury-disrupted season up and running.

Whilst he hadn’t exactly set the world alight during his first two campaigns at the club – with two goals and four assists picked up – Garner could definitely morph into the Toffees’ next iteration of Osman slowly but surely, with the retired Toffees legend also taking his time to go down as a modern great on Merseyside.

As can be seen looking at the table above, Garner – much like Osman managed during his time at the club – has proven himself to be a reliable utility figure all across the midfield positions at Goodison, with the versatile 23-year-old even capable of playing in defence.

But, Moyes will likely want to use him in the heart of his midfield, knowing he is capable too of mirroring his former great’s goal and assist numbers at the top of his game, having tallied up an impressive 18 goal contributions during a 69-game spell with Nottingham Forest.

Everton midfielder James Garner

Lauded as “phenomenal” off the back of his City Ground exploits by pundit Trevor Sinclair, the £30k-per-week star is perhaps rather underrated – much like Osman – and will now hope he is free of any lingering injury concerns.

Onana upgrade: Amorim now wants to sign "monster" goalkeeper for Man Utd

As Manchester United go in search of reinforcements, Ruben Amorim has reportedly identified one particular upgrade on Andre Onana who he now wants to bring to Old Trafford.

Amorim could ditch Onana at Man Utd

Despite Manchester United’s disastrous start to the Premier League campaign, Onana initially looked destined to become one of the Red Devils’ most important players – putting a debut campaign to forget behind him.

Andre Onana

As Erik ten Hag’s reign came to an end, however, he began to rediscover old habits and has not let go ever since, proving to be a problem for Amorim.

Mistakes against the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Ipswich Town have far from helped the goalkeeper’s case and it’s becoming clearer by the day that he should be among those shown the door by Amorim.

Just who comes in to replace the former Ajax remains to be seen, however. Names like Jan Oblak have threatened to steal the headlines this week, but as talented as he is, the Atletico Madrid man is now 32 years old and not a long-term solution.

Instead, those at Old Trafford could turn their attention towards Ligue 1 and a rising star. According to GIVEMESPORT, Amorim now personally wants Lucas Chevalier at Manchester United with the 23-year-old continuing to enjoy an excellent season for LOSC Lille, who value their star a around £34m.

A modern-day shot-stopper, Chevalier would be quite the coup for Manchester United if they fail to qualify for any European competition this season, which is a likely reality at this stage unless they win the Europa League.

Nonetheless, INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe may just hope that the Manchester United name carries enough weight to lure such targets into a summer move. Out of several options around Europe, Chevalier is one worth going all out for when the window swings open too.

"Excellent" Chevalier would be instant upgrade

Whether it’s Manchester United or another European giant, Chevalier looks destined to complete a top move this summer or in the coming years.

The 23-year-old has simply been excellent throughout the current campaign and even kept a clean sheet against Real Madrid in the Champions League back in October.

Where Onana has struggled this season, Chevalier has thrived in what has been a case of two contrasting campaigns between the sticks. Described as “excellent” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig and a “monster” by Scouted Football, there’s no doubt that the Frenchman would be a huge upgrade.

Whilst there may be clearer priorities on Manchester United’s list this summer, including revamping their attack, signing a fresh face behind Amorim’s backline also has its importance.

Chevalier, in particular, would solve a number of problems through both his shot-stopping and just how comfortable he is in possession compared to Onana. Whether the Red Devils make their move to sign the talented Lille man remains to be seen, however.

Slot intensifies £20m Liverpool move as Trent now close to Real Madrid deal

Following the latest update on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool future, Arne Slot has reportedly intensified Liverpool’s move to sign a potential replacement for just £25m this summer.

Alexander-Arnold "very close" to joining Real Madrid – Romano

Yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, Alexander-Arnold’s future has looked likely to be away from Anfield for a few months now – especially with Real Madrid lurking. And if there was any remaining hope that he would stay put this summer, then Fabrizio Romano’s latest update may well spark the beginning of the end for any talk of a new contract.

According to the reporter, the deal between Real Madrid and Alexander-Arnold is “very close” and he is “expected” to join the Spanish giants on a free deal in a major blow for the Reds. Whilst it will be news for those around Merseyside, however, Slot has already reportedly set his sights on finding a replacement and one that he knows well.

According to Caught Offside, Slot is now personally intensifying Liverpool’s move to sign Givairo Read from Feyenoord this summer in a deal worth around €25m (£20m).

Mar 25, 2025

The Reds reportedly see Read as a long-term solution to their fresh right-back problem following the 18-year-old’s solid campaign in the Netherlands. The fact that he’s already got an admirer in Slot should certainly help too – it was only this time last year that the Liverpool boss was handing Read his first-team debut at Feyenoord.

Now, the right-back looks set to get the chance to reunite with his former manager and complete the biggest move of his career yet.

"Fantastic" Read can replace Alexander-Arnold

After bidding farewell to their own academy graduate and one that Jurgen Klopp welcomed into the first-team, Liverpool would be wise to turn towards Feyenoord’s rising star and one that Slot brought through in the Netherlands.

AC Milan's Rafael Leao in action with Feyenoord'sGivairoRead

Read certainly looks talented enough to eventually replace Alexander-Arnold at Anfield too, having assisted as many as seven goals so far this season – the same number that Liverpool’s chief creator has managed.

Earning plenty of praise as a result, football talent scout Jacek Kulig was left in awe of Read’s “fantastic performances” against AC Milan in the Champions League this season.

When the summer arrives, it could yet be Liverpool left in awe of the teenager’s performances as they look to forget all about Alexander-Arnold’s likely exit in the coming months.

At 18 years old, Read already ticks a number of boxes for those at Anfield as they look to hand Slot a familiar face within his backline.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

United were dismal in the 2024/25 season, finishing 15th in the Premier League, their lowest finish in the history of the competition. Even so, to hear an Old Trafford hero talk about mid-table finishes as a realistic goal will rankle with the red half of Manchester. It was not long ago that Sir Jim Ratcliffe was planning for a league title win by 2028, a goal that looks increasingly farcical.

  • WHAT FERDINAND SAID

Ferdinand told Mirror Sport: "I think if you finish 15th this year, United have got to be looking to finish in at least the top eight, top six.

"I don't think you should be looking outside of that. And that's from someone who only thought about winning the league at United. So it's a big come-down in that sense."

    WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?

United are discovering their once all-powerful brand does not carry quite the same weight as it used to. Without serious reinforcements to the squad, maybe even Ferdinand's realistic goal of finishing in the top 8 might appear outlandish come the start of the season.

Arsenal are now racing Real Madrid and Barcelona for an attacking midfielder with a £35m release clause, according to a report.

Gunners eyeing talented youngsters

While one of Mikel Arteta’s main priorities for the summer is likely to be bringing in a new striker, the manager is also keen on bringing in talented young players for his future project.

One position in which Arteta is looking to strengthen is left-back, and 19-year-old Ajax defender Jorrel Hato has now emerged as an option, having been admired by the Gunners for a considerable period of time.

Hato’s first-team experience in the Eredivisie indicates he could be capable of pushing for a starting spot straight away, but the north Londoners also have some more up-and-coming targets in mind.

Arteta’s side are also seriously considering a move for Dinamo Tbilisi defender Saba Kharebashvili, who is just 17 years old, and they have now made contact to discuss a deal, although there could be fierce competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Arsenal may also have to do battle with Madrid for the signature of River Plate’s Franco Mastantuono, according to a report from Spain, which states they have now set their sights on the young attacking midfielder.

Mastantuono, who has a £35m release clause in his River Plate contract, has started to attract the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs, owing to his meteoric rise in Argentina, with Liverpool, Barcelona and Chelsea also being named as potential suitors.

The Gunners have been impressed by the 17-year-old’s vision and ability on the ball, viewing him as a player who could add creativity to their midfield, and River Plate have reluctantly accepted the youngster will soon move to Europe.

"Superstar" Mastantuono could go right to the top

Freelance scout Ben Mattinson has lauded the young Argentine as a “superstar”, and for good reason, given that he has already established himself as a first-team regular for River Plate, during which time he’s displayed his play-making abilities.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has also described the starlet as a “true football artist”, and he has put in some top performances in recent weeks, most recently scoring in his side’s Copa Argentina triumph over Ciudad de Bolivar.

Albeit in Argentina, Mastantuono establishing himself as a key player for the senior team at such a young age is no mean feat, and it indicates the River Plate ace could be able to make the step up to the Premier League before long.

£35m is a huge sum to pay for a 17-year-old, but the teenager is drawing attention from the likes of Real Madrid and Barça for a reason, and it could be a real show of intent if Arsenal are able to win the race for his signature.
